Explorers Host Xavier For Three-Game Series


PHILADELPHIA – The La Salle baseball team remains at Hank DeVincent Field this weekend for a three-game Atlantic 10 series versus Xavier.

Probable Starters
Friday: LHP Eric Van Wyk (3-6, 3.98) vs. RHP Vinny Nittoli (3-4, 4.33)
Saturday: LHP Ryan Donahue (1-3, 2.53) vs. Jon Richard (4-4, 5.72)
Sunday: RHP Kevin Christy (1-3, 2.55) vs. Tyler Koors (1-5, 5.10)

Scouting the Explorers (17-26, 4-11 A-10)

Jeff Flax (.316), the only Explorer batting over .300, moved into second place on the all-time at-bat list with 776. He needs 10 hits to move into sixth place all-time in that category.

Marc Schoch is tied for fifth with 44 career doubles, while Brendan Norton continues to lead the nation in walks/game. Adam?Kammler is 17th in hit by pitch/game.

On the mound, La Salle boats two pitchers in the top five in the A-10 in ERA in Ryan Donahue (2.53) and Kevin Christy (2.55). Christy needs 11 strikeouts to break the school record held by Kevin Fuqua '11 with 222.

Eric Van Wyk moved into third place all-time at LU in innings pitched with 263.0. Pat Christensen is eighth in the A-10 in saves.

Scouting the Musketeers (22-24, 8-7 A-10)

Xavier last took two of three at Fordham to improve to 8-7 in the Atlantic 10 (22-24 overall). All three games were decided by four runs.

Mark Elwell is the only XU?player batting over .300 at .313. Patrick Paligraf, Selby Chidemo, Derek Hasenbeck and Brian Bruening have all driven in 20 runs.

The Musketeers boast a 4.01 team ERA, led by closer Seth Willoughby (1-1, 1.24) who leads the A-10 with 11 saves.

Vinny Nittoli?(3-4, 4.33), Tyler Koors (1-5, 5.10) and Jon Richard (4-4, 5.72)?have been the XU rotation all season.

Xavier has series remaining at George Washington and home versus Saint Joseph's.
