Zach Turchi netted his first career goal in style, as his score in the 96th minute sent the La Salle men's soccer squad to a hard-fought 1-0 overtime win at Saint Peter's on Saturday night at Lubetkin Field on the campus of NJIT.
The Explorers wrapped up the nonconference schedule with a 6-2-2 record, the best nonconference record since the 1994 squad also won six games. The Peacocks drop to 2-7.
The ball deflected off of a Saint Peter's player, which Turchi picked up around the 20-yard line and found the back of the net.
The Explorers had many chances in regulation, as 10 of their 16 attempted shots were on the mark but Peacock keeper Carlos Suarez recorded nine saves to keep the Blue & Gold off the board. The Peacocks attempted 10 shots, with keeper
John McCarthy needing to save just two.
The Explorers dominated the first half, rattling off eight shots to just two Peacock attempts but the home squad picked it up and outshot the Explorers 8-5 after the break. The Explorers held the home team without a shot in the overtime period.
The Explorers take nearly a week break before opening Atlantic 10 play next Friday (10/5) at home against Fordham at 7 p.m. The program will host an alumni reception during and after the contest against the Rams.
