Men's Soccer Drops 2-1 Decision to Bucknell

Box Score PHILADELPHIA - Bucknell used a two-goal spurt in 42 seconds and held on as the La Salle men's soccer team fell 2-1 to the Bison on Friday night at McCarthy Stadium.

Nick Becker cut the 2-0 Bison lead to one goal in the 69th minute on his first goal of the season on a pass from Kameron Teel for the eventual final score.

Both squads played even ball in the first half, taking a combined 18 shots but neither team getting a good look at the net in the strong defensive effort.

The Bison (1-1-2) came out with two quick shots in the second half, one wide and another saved by La Salle keeper John McCarthy. One of the Explorers' best chances came shortly after, when Joe Farrell took a shot near the right post that barely hit the upper right corner of the crossbar.

Pat Sullivan also came close to putting the Explorers (3-1) on the board in the 52nd minute with a header close to the goal, but Bison rookie keeper Mike Lansing got a hand on it.

The Bison broke through at the 56:27 mark when CK Kumah took a cross from Brendan Burgdorf on the left side and chipped it into the net. Josh Plump put the visitors up 2-0 with an unassisted shot just 42 seconds later, finding himself alone on the left side of the net when he picked up the ball and flicked it in.

The Explorers put up a strong fight throughout the rest of the game, with Becker's shot getting the Blue & Gold on the board at the 68:53 mark. Teel dribbled to the right side then passed the ball on the ground in front of the goal to Becker on the left, who slipped the ball past Lansing on the left.

Two Explorer corner kicks came up short in the final four minutes. McCarthy also picked up the ball after a Bison foul, dribbled down the field and launched a long shot with 24 seconds remaining but Lansing caught the ball to lock up the final score.

The Explorers held a 23-16 advantage on shots, with Jason Plumhoff taking a game-high five with three on goal. The home squad also held a 7-3 advantage on corner kicks.

Lansing picked up the win for the Bison, saving nine shots. McCarthy suffered his first loss of the season and recorded seven saves.

The Explorers continue a string of three games against Patriot League foes when they host Lafayette on Sunday at 1 p.m.
