SAN FRANCISCO - La Salle volleyball dropped two on Saturday at the Asics Coca Cola Challenge, falling 1-3 (12-25, 25-20, 17-25, 15-25) to San Francisco (6-3) in the morning contest and 1-3 (16-25, 23-25, 25-22, 16-25) to LIU Brooklyn (4-5) in the night cap.
In the day's first match, La Salle dropped the opening set but discovered its form in the second with a 25-20 set win. However, the Dons swept the last two frames to finish off the Explorers.
Kelly Scanlon stuffed the stat sheet for La Salle, recording 18 kills (.154) and 16 digs to go along with a service ace.
Breanna Mazalewski registered 17 digs while
Samantha Tulskie chipped in with 14.
Rachel Melich posted a team-high 33 assists.
In the evening affair, LIU Brooklyn took the match's first two sets before the Explorers stole the momentum with a 25-22 third set victory. The Blackbirds put the Explorers away with a 16-25 showing in the fourth period.
Samantha Tulskie (16 kills (.174), 11 digs) and
Kelly Scanlon (14 kills (.132), 11 digs) both recorded double-doubles for the Explorers in the losing effort.
Breanna Mazalewski added 14 digs while
Rachel Melich set 30 assists.
Kelly Scanlon was selected to the all-tournament team for her outstanding play in the three weekend matches. Scanlon combined for 47 kills (.203) and 36 digs for the Explorers during the tournament.
La Salle is back on the court Wednesday at 7PM when they play host to Rider University at Tom Gola Arena.
