Last Time Out
The Explorers shot 57 percent (13-23) from the field in the second half, knocking off Richmond 71-59 on Saturday afternoon at Tom Gola Arena. Tyrone Garland led all scorers with 17 points while Tyreek Duren stuffed the stat sheet (15 pts, 7 ast, 7 reb, 4 stl, 1 blk). The junior finished the game with 998 career points. The Explorers shot 47 percent (28-60) from the field and held Richmond to a 41 percent (24-59) clip, including a 22 percent (4-18) mark from behind the arc.

Coach's Corner
Head coach Dr. John Giannini on…

The play of Duren:
Tyreek is a pure point guard. He makes great decisions. He had seven assists and one turnover in the last game, but he can also score. He's very much that complete kind of guard that I think makes teams really good.

What Dayton brings to the table:
I think Dayton's played well this year. Dillard is terrific. They have great team size and athleticism. They rebound the ball hard. They have some guys that can score inside. They push it. They score a decent number of points and they have guys that can shoot.

Defensively, they have good length and athleticism and they play hard so I think they're a very solid team on both ends of the court.

Scouting the Explorers
Off to their best since the 1989-90 season, the Explorers are averaging 73.5 points/game, second-best in the Atlantic 10. Much of the offensive success is owed to exceptional ball security. La Salle ranks in the top 30 nationally in turnover margin (+3.7) and turnovers/game (11.4). They also rank in the top five in the conference in scoring margin (+8.0), free throw percentage (72%), and field goal percentage defense (.313).

Despite an outing Saturday hampered by foul trouble, Ramon Galloway continues to shine as one of the A-10's brightest stars. The senior is the conference's second leading scorer (17.1 ppg) and ranks fourth in steals/game (2.3). He also ranks third in the A-10 in three point field goals/game (3.0), which ranks in the top 20 nationally.

Duren comes into the contest at 15.1 points/game, good for ninth in the conference. Galloway and Duren are the A-10's only tandem to rank in the top 10 in scoring from the same team. He leads the team in assists/game (3.5) as well. Garland has provided instant offense off the bench for the Blue and Gold, averaging 14.3 points/game in only 25 minutes/game. He boasts a 45 percent field goal percentage, highest among La Salle's primary guards.

Steve Zack (7.0 ppg, 6.7 rpg) and Jerrell Wright (10.8 ppg, 6.5 rpg) have anchored a steadily improved Explorer front court, one which boasts two of the conference's top 15 rebounders. Both players are shooting well over 50 percent from the field on the season.

Sam Mills continues to pace La Salle in minutes/game (35.1), ranking seventh in the A-10. Mills was credited with defending Richmond's three point sharpshooter Darien Brothers, who scored only seven points (1-7 3PT) on Saturday. Brothers entered the weekend as the nation's leading shooter from long range.

Scouting the Flyers
Dayton has dropped its first two A-10 meetings of the season, falling 74-62 at VCU before being dropped 79-73 at home on Saturday to Butler. They Flyers are dangerous from long range, ranking second in the A-10 in three point field goal percentage (.364). Rebounding is a strength as well, posting a (+4.9) team rebounding margin, good for third in the conference.

Junior Devin Oliver is the Flyers' main man on the glass, pulling in a conference-best 9.1 rebounds/game. Senior Kevin Dillard is Dayton's most potent scoring threat (15.0 ppg) and is joined in double figures by junior Vee Sanford (12.5) and senior Josh Benson (10.7). Dillard ranks fifth in the A-10 in assists/game (4.6) and fourth in free throw percentage (87%).

Dayton head coach Archie Miller on La Salle:

One of my favorite teams to watch last year was La Salle, and it starts with their guard play. I think Duren is one of the most underrated guards in the nation. I don't think he gets clearly enough praise for their team; when you add Galloway into the mix, there's another guy who is very, very undervalued. Their style is tough; their speed and their shooting is great. Coming into this year, I knew they'd be one of the best teams in our league and they're doing a nice job.
