Ramon Galloway added 15 points and sophomore
Steve Zack had 13 for the visitors.
La Salle (12-5, 2-2 A-10) was looking to become just the second Atlantic 10 Conference team to win at the Cintas Center in the last 50 tries but could not overcome the Musketeers.
Freshman Semaj Christon had a game-high 18 points for Xavier (11-6, 4-0 A-10).
The Blue and Gold raced to a 17-9 advantage early in the first half on the back of Zack, who had eight points during the early going. Xavier slowly chipped away and took the lead on a Brad Redford three-pointer with 5:58 before halftime.
“They made their run and we didn't respond well,” La Salle coach Dr. John Giannini said.
La Salle tied the game at 26-26 but the Musketeers finished the half on a 8-1 run to take a 35-27 lead into the lockerrooms.
In the second half, XU controlled play stretching its advantage to as many as 16 points with 30 seconds remaining. Garland scored the next six points and a DJ Peterson three with two seconds left resulted in a 9-0 run to cut the final score to seven points.
