Expectations for playing Penn
They are infinitely better than what their record shows. They're not the same team they were a couple weeks ago; they're playing so much better. They've had close losses against very good teams. They're due to really break through here sometime soon.
Penn's depth
They have a lot of kids that are going to stay fresh and play extremely hard and that's what his team is doing best. They're playing super hard in terms of defense and getting up and down the floor. So they have very good depth, they're playing good defense, and they're young.
What
Tyrone Garland's addition has meant
As long as Ty plays defense, he's really going to help us. We know he's a good offensive player and we know he's a good chemistry guy because he's a good kid.
Scouting the Explorers
La Salle's 74.3 points/game is good for second in the Atlantic 10, behind the conference's leading scorer,
Ramon Galloway (17.8 ppg). Galloway ranks in the top five in the A-10 in steals/game (2.4), three point field goal percentage (.476), and three point field goals/game (3.3). He also paces the Blue and Gold in assists/game at 3.8.
Duren's 15.2 points/game ranks ninth in the conference, making La Salle the only A-10 school to boast two top-10 scorers.
Scouting the Quakers
Penn has dropped five in a row coming into this weekend, most recently falling 70-57 at #17 Butler on Wednesday evening. They last won on November 17 against Binghamton and posted a victory in their season opener over UMBC.
The Quakers calling card has been staunch defense all season long, leading the Ivy League in field goal percentage defense (.410) and ranking second in three point field goal percentage defense (.319).
Junior forward Fran Dougherty leads the conference in rebounding (8.7 rpg) and ranks second in scoring (15.7 ppg) but is not expected to play on Saturday because of illness, according to Penn's website. As a result, the Quakers will rely on junior guard Miles Cartwright (14.8 ppg), the Ivy League's fourth leading scorer, to carry the offensive load.
Up Next
The Explorers will begin A-10 play at Charlotte on Wednesday, January 9 at 7:30 PM.
