Men’s Soccer Welcomes Villanova on Wednesday


PHILADELPHIA – The La Salle men's soccer team will host Villanova on Wednesday at 7 PM in its second Philadelphia Soccer 6 matchup of the season. The Explorers fell to Drexel, 1-0, on September 17 in their Soccer 6 opener.

Last Time Out
La Salle ran away and hid from Stetson on Saturday night, defeating the Hatters, 3-1. Sophomore Andrew Connors and senior Giancarlo Granese each netted their first goals of the season and senior Glenroy Chapman picked up his third of the year. Senior goalkeeper John McCarthy made four saves in the victory and sophomore Joe Farrell added his third and fourth assists of the campaign.

  • La Salle is 3-1-1 in its last five matches and have outscored opponents 8-3 in that span.
  • The Explorers have outscored their opponents 14-12 on the season but have been outshot 119-90.
  • La Salle ranks third in the Atlantic 10 in points/game (5.0), fourth in goals/game (1.75), and fourth in assists/game (1.5).

  • McCarthy's shutout of Lehigh on September 21 marked the 25th of his career, adding to a program record he established last year. His 384 career saves are fourth in program history. He is 20 away from tying Rick Scholer (1989-92) for third all-time.
  • Plumhoff has tallied 59 career points, ninth in La Salle history. He is three away from tying Mike Bradby (1986-89) for eighth all-time. His 19 assists are good for a three-way tie for fifth in program history.

Wildcat Notes
  • The Wildcats defeated the Explorers, 2-1, in their most recent matchup (9/20/12).
  • Villanova dropped its BIG EAST conference opener on Saturday to #25 Butler, 2-1.
  • Since giving up seven goals in their season opener to New Mexico (8/30), the Wildcats have not surrendered more than two scores in any match.
  • Villanova has been outscored 14-11 on the year and has been outshot 134-108.
  • Max Kroschwitz, Adetomiwa Adewole, and Chris Will have each tallied five points for the Wildcats this season, tied for the club lead.
