#24 VCU Blanks Men’s Soccer, 3-0

RICHMOND, Va. – 24th-ranked VCU scored twice in the game's final 15 minutes, taking down the La Salle men's soccer team, 3-0, on Friday evening at Sports Backers Stadium. With the loss, La Salle dips to 6-6-2 (3-1-0 A-10) on the year while the Rams improve to 8-4-2 (3-0-1 A-10).

VCU got on the board in the 25th minute when Dennis Castillo netted his fourth goal of the season on a penalty kick after the Explorers were whistled for a penalty in the box. The score remained 1-0 until halftime, as the Rams entered the break with a 9-1 shot advantage.

La Salle's defense showed strong for the first 30 minutes of the second period but cracked in the 75th when Rahim Costa-Dorsey banged home his second score of the season after a deflection off an Explorer defender.

Dennis Castillo put the match away five minutes later when he finished off a cross from Kharlton Belmar.

For the game, the Rams outshot the Blue and Gold 14-4 and held a 5-3 corner kick advantage.

Jason Plumhoff took three of La Salle's four shots in the contest while John McCarthy made seven saves in goal.

The Explorers will resume their road swing on Sunday at 1 PM vs. George Mason.
