FAIRFAX, Va. – The La Salle men's soccer team played George Mason to a 1-1 double-overtime draw on Sunday afternoon at George Mason Stadium.
Rob Friskey netted the lone goal for the Explorers in the 35
th minute.
Friskey popped in his fourth goal of the season at the 34:01 mark amidst a scramble in front of the net. The marker was Friskey's third in his last five matches. He has tallied eight total points in that span.
Nick Becker was credited with his third assist of the year.
La Salle (6-6-3, 3-1-1) entered the half up 1-0, but George Mason responded shortly after intermission when Jannik Eckenrode found the back of the net off an assist from Taylor Washington. The 50
th minute goal tied the contest at one apiece and proved to be the final score.
John McCarthy was the man on Sunday for the Explorers, totaling 11 saves, tied for a season high. Mason outshot La Salle 6-2 in the overtime periods but McCarthy turned them all away to help preserve the draw.
The Patriots (7-2-3, 2-0-2) outshout the Blue and Gold 23-7 and held a 12-3 advantage in the shots on goal department. Mason also posted an 8-1 advantage on corner kicks.
La Salle will play again on Sunday, November 3 at McCarthy Stadium. Senior day festivities will be celebrated pre-game.
