The visitors led 37-33 at the break, before the Explorers blitzed the Bobcats for 49 points in the second half to cruise to the 82-71 victory. Explorer freshman Jermaine Thomas posted 23 points (5-16 FG, 9-10 FT, 2-4 3-PT) and eight assists to lead all players in the contest.

La Salle's starting backcourt poured in 60 points on Saturday, led by a game-high 28 from Tyrone Garland. Duren (17 pts) added nine assists, accompanied by three turnovers, to his stat line while Mills (15 pts) and Garland each had four assists of their own. D.J. Peterson added seven points and five assists.
La Salle was exploited on the glass, as Manhattan outrebounded the home team 51-33, including 24 offensive boards. Jerrell Wright (16 pts, 4 reb) and Steve Zack (5 pts, 6 reb) led the Explorers on the boards while Duren chipped in with five.

Scouting the Bobcats
Quinnipiac kicked off its 2013-14 on Saturday afternoon as well, dispatching Hartford 82-77 at Webster Bank Arena. The Bobcats trailed 42-31 at the intermission, before lighting up the Hawks defense for 51 points in the second stanza to snatch the victory.
One of the main keys to Quinnipiac's second half comeback was there tenacity in hitting the boards. The Bobcats out-rebounded Hartford 47-to-31 for the game, including a 26-to-12 advantage in the second half. This will be a primary factor to keep an eye on in the upcoming matchup, as the Explorers struggled on the glass in their season opener.
Ike Azotam led the Bobcats offense in the opener. The 6-7 power forward collected 20 points and 13 rebounds in the contest, his 27th career double-double. He shot 55% from the field (6-of-11 FG), while going 8-of-13 from the free throw line.
Zaid Hearst chipped in 17 points, sealing the Quinnipiac victory at the charity stripe down the stretch. He finished 12-for-12 from the free throw line, setting a new single-game program record for most attempts without a miss.
