Men’s Soccer Set to Play Dayton in First Round of Atlantic 10 Tournament


DAYTON, Oh. – The La Salle men's soccer team will take on host Dayton on Thursday at 8 PM in the first round of the Atlantic 10 tournament. The Explorers, seeded fourth, will play the fifth seeded Flyers who defeated La Salle, 3-2, on November 3 at McCarthy Stadium.

La Salle swept its final weekend in the conference, shutting out Fordham (2-0) and George Washington (1-0). John McCarthy combined for 17 saves in the efforts.

Explorer Notes
  • Jason Plumhoff was named Atlantic 10 Offensive Player of the Year on Wednesday.
    • Leads the A-10 in points (20), points/game (1.61), goals (10), goals/game (0.56) and is tied for the lead in assists (9)
    • Ranks ninth nationally in points/game and is tied for 11th nationally in assists/game
    • Is the only player in the nation to leads his respective conference in goals and assists
    • He has registered 77 career points, fifth in La Salle history. He ranks second in program history in assists (25) and seventh in goals (26). 
  • McCarthy was named first-team all-conference as well. Here's why:
    • Led the conference in saves (98) and save percentage (5.76)…His save percentage figure ranks ninth in the nation.
    • Has led the A-10 in saves four consecutive years…two of those years he has ranked in the top-five in the nation
    • Owns 28 career shutouts, most in program history and is tied for 21st in NCAA history.
    • His 451 career saves are six shy of tying Paul Centofanti (1986-89) for second in La Salle history.
  • La Salle ranks fourth in the A-10 in points/game (4.61), goals/game (1.56), and third in assists/game (1.5).
  • Joe Farrell is tied for fifth in the A-10 in assists (5) and tied for eighth in assists/game (0.29). Four of his assists were of the game-winning variety.
  • Rob Friskey recorded eight points (3 goals, 2 assist) in conference games, tied for tenth in the league.
  • La Salle went 5-3-0 at home this season and 3-4-3 on the road.
  • The Explorers are 7-2-1 this year when scoring at least two goals.
  • Of La Salle's 28 goals, 20 have been scored in the second half.
  • La Salle has tallied a .161 shot percentage while limiting its opponents to an .094 clip.
  • Plumhoff, Mike Stanton, and Pat Sullivan are the only three Explorers to start all 18 games this season.
  • La Salle is 4-0-0 when Nick Becker notches an assist.

Flyer Notes
  • Dayton had two players achieve all-conference status, midfielder Abe Keller and forward Greg Enstone.
  • Keller ranks second in the A-10 in points/game (1.28) and is tied with Plumhoff with nine assists.
  • Enstone's nine goals are second most in the conference.
  • The Flyers lead the conference in points/game (6.28) and assists/game (1.83) and come in tied for the league lead in goals/game (2.22).
