Women's Basketball Hits The Road For Thursday Clash With Tribe

PHILADELPHIA – The La Salle women's basketball squad heads on the road for its last game before the finals break for a Thursday night contest at William & Mary. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m.

Thursday marks the first-ever meeting of the Explorers and Tribe.

Scouting the Explorers
The Explorers dropped a 64-54 decision to Big 5 foe Penn on Monday evening as the Quakers used an early 10-0 run to gain the lead for good and a second-half 11-2 run to pull away. Rookie Micahya Owens was the lone Explorer in double figures with 16 points, while fellow rookie Jasmine Alston corralled a game-high-tying eight rebounds while chipping in four points and a game-best four steals.

Owens has taken over the top spot on the team in terms of scoring, averaging 12.8 ppg after that 16-point performance. She has scored in double figures in four of the six games of her young collegiate career. She also chips in 4.5 rpg and 1.2 apg.

Khristin Lee is averaging 12.0 ppg, also hitting double figures in four of her six games so far this season. The guard is also pulling down 5.5 boards and averages a team-best 3.7 assists and an Atlantic 10-best 3.3 steals.

Alicia Cropper rounds out the trio of Explorers in double figures, adding 11.5 ppg and 4.3 rpg. She is also third with 2.2 assists per outing.

Defensively, Leeza Burdgess continues to lead the squad in rebounding with 7.2 boards per game. Siobhan Beslow is second with 6.5 rpg.

The Explorers are averaging an even 60.0 points per game while giving up 61.5 ppg to opponents.

Scouting the Tribe
William & Mary is coming off its first win of the season, a 96-88 overtime win over Massachusetts in the Maine Thanksgiving Tournament in Orono, Maine. Junior Jazmen Boone drained a career-best 24 points to lead five players in double figures over the Minutewomen. Prior to that, the squad dropped its first five of the season including a 61-60 heartbreaker to High Point in the home opener.

Three players average double figures for the Tribe, led by Kaitlyn Mathieu who is scoring 14.5 ppg and pulling down a team-best 7.8 rpg. She shoots nearly 50 percent from the field and is a threat from long range, going 32.0 percent (8-25).

Marlena Tremba is just behind with 14.0 ppg while dishing out a team-best 3.0 assists per game and chipping in nearly 2.0 steals per game.

Kyla Kerstetter is the third player in double figures, chipping in 12.0 ppg and 4.3 rpg. She is also averaging 2.1 steals.

Boone chips in 9.0 ppg and 4.0 rpg and is the team's steals leader with 2.5 per outing.

The team is shooting 39.0 percent overall and has scored 63.3 ppg while giving up 75.2 ppg to opponents. The Tribe averages 32.0 rpg, with opponents pulling down 48.7 rpg.
