Men’s Track & Field Opens Indoor Season at Jack Pyrah Invitational

HAVERFORD, Pa. – The La Salle men's track and field team opened up its indoor season on Saturday afternoon at the Jack Pyrah Invitational, posting a number of top finishes. Graduate student Demitri Goutos highlighted the day with an IC4A qualifying time of 8:28.11 in the 3,000 meter run, good for a second place finish.

Freshman Chris Sanders clocked a 2:30.98 in the 1,000 meter race, coming in second. He also ran the fast leg of the 4x400m relay team that came in fifth with a 3:29.31.

Joshua Byrd placed eighth (32-runner field) in the 60-meter dash with a career-best 7.28. He later came in fourth (42-runner field) in the 300-meter run with a 36.58 (PR). Freshman Avery Hunter-Brooks registered a 7.35 (14th) in the 60-meter dash and a 37.66 (13th) in the 300-meter run.

Kevin Grosso ran a 2:01.18 in the 800-meter run, coming in third. Kevin Day turned in a strong performance in the one-mile run with a 4:22.47, good for third place.

In addition to Goutos' 8K performance, three more Explorers turned in top-eight times. Luke Arbuckle finished fourth (8:45.28, PR), Terence Murphy placed sixth (9:04.88, PR), and Trent Mangold  came in eighth (9:17.23).

The Explorers will put their skills to the test again on January 17 at the UAlbany Great Dane Classic.
