Santana's championship clinching run highlighted the day for the Blue and Gold men, who earned 16 total points, good for sixth place entering day two.

"I felt really strong due to the amount of miles I put in throughout the break to prepare for these conference championships and it ended up helping me out in the long run," Santana said, following the victory.. "I was happy with my race, I executed coaches plan perfectly and it help get me the win. However, I am not trying to get caught up with this race because I have the 3k tomorrow and I have to back up my performance in the 5k by running good in the 3k."
