GENEVA, Ohio – It was an explosive night for the women's swim and dive team on the second night of competition at the Atlantic 10 Championship as the Explorers picked up an individual event win and a school record.

In what seemed like the perfect ending to a movie, senior Elizabeth Jordan took home the gold medal in the 50 yard freestyle (23.35) by the narrowest of margins over teammate Katie Snee (23.36) who finished in solo second place. At last year's championship meet, Jordan and Snee finished in fourth and fifth place, respectively.

“It's an indescribable feeling to be able to accomplish a race like that,” said Jordan. “Katie and I both swam to perfection and I couldn't be more pleased with the results. It's such a great way to start the first night of individual races and hopefully the team can use this to continue to put up impressive swims for the remainder of the meet.”

After a lackluster preliminary swim that failed to make the “A” final, sophomore Colleen Larkin made a statement by breaking the school record in the 500 yard freestyle in a time of 4:53.54 which broke the 18 year-old record by eighteen one-hundreds of a second.

“Breaking the record was one of my goals for the meet so I'm really happy I got to accomplish it,” said Larkin. “It definitely got me excited for the rest of the meet.”

After the second day of competition the women's team sits in fourth place with Competition resumes tomorrow morning at 10:30 AM.
