GENEVA, Ohio – It was another day of broken school records for the Explorer women at the Atlantic 10 Championship as two records fell in the morning preliminaries of the third day of competition. Senior
Jessica Simunek took down her own 100 yard butterfly record in addition to teammate
Elizabeth Jordan's 100 yard breaststroke record.
Simunek first swam the 100 fly in a time of 55.67 to re-break her own school record (55.93) that she set at last year's championship meet. Her time places her third heading into tonight's final. The Cherry Hill, N.J. native then became the first Explorer under 1:03.00 in the 100 breast with a time of 1:02.92 to place second. Jordan's record previously stood at 1:03.02 which she set at last year's A10 meet. Jordan, who swam immediately after Simunek and in the same lane, touched in 1:04.00 to place fifth. Swimming the 100 fly and 100 breast is a tough double for anyone which makes Simunek's accomplishment that much more impressive.
Sophomore
Colleen Larkin placed seventh in the 400 yard individual medley with a time of 4:29.26.
Sophomore backstrokers
Amina Wilson and
Chelsey Curran placed seventh and tenth, respectively, in the 100 yard backstroke. Wilson clocked in at 56.88 while Curran touched the wall in 57.15.
Tonight's finals begin at 6:30 PM.
