RALEIGH, N.C. – The La Salle baseball team dropped two on Saturday, falling 5-0 to North Carolina State before suffering a 6-3 loss to Villanova in the night cap. With the setbacks, the Blue and Gold fell to 1-3 on the young season.

GAME 1
NC State's Carlos Rodon, a consensus first-team All-American, and reliever Karl Keglovits threw nine innings of no-hit ball to lead the Wolfpack to a 5-0 victory on Saturday afternoon. Kevin Baron drew the lone walk of the game for La Salle, which fanned 15 times in the game.

Ryan Donohue threw five innings of shutout ball, striking out two and walking two while earning the no decision. Mike McLeod was granted the loss after giving up five earned runs in the sixth. Freshmen Luke Reilly and Joey Ravert each saw the hill for the first time in their collegiate careers, combining for 2.2 innings, no earned runs, and two strikeouts.

Tarran Senay hit a two-run homer in the sixth to ignite the Wolfpack offense, which kept its foot on the gas pedal in the frame. Matt Bergquist and Sam Morgan both produced RBI singles in the inning and Trea Turner singled and eventually scored on a wild pitch to close McLeod's line.

Rodon improved his record to 1-1 on the year as the Wolfpack improved its overall mark to 3-1.

GAME 2
Dan Klem, Ryan Welling, and Baron all notched two-hit games for the Blue and Gold but the Wildcats tallied six run and 11 hits in a 6-3 defeat of La Salle. Josh Harris earned his first win of the season for the Wildcats (6 IP, 2 ER) while freshman Austin Clark took his first collegiate loss for the Explorers (3.2 IP, 2 ER).

Villanova got on the board in the first on a John Cialine RBI single, scoring Tyler Sciacca. La Salle answered with two in the bottom half of the second. Welling singled and scored on a Kevin Conroy sacrifice fly and Ravert crossed the plate on a Baron single after doubling in his at bat. The Wildcats pushed a run across in the third to even the game at 2-2.

The game remained scoreless until the sixth, when Villanova opened up a 4-2 lead after loading the bases. Max Beermann and Adam Goss were each credited with RBIs. Beermann was hit by a pitch and Goss hit a sac fly.

Welling answered in the bottom of the eighth with his first career home run, clearing the fence in left field to cut the Villanova lead to 4-3. However, the Wildcats countered with two more runs in the top of the ninth and the Blue and Gold went down quietly in the bottom half of the frame to close out the game.

Villanova picked up its first victory of the season, improving to 1-3.

La Salle's (1-3) Sunday schedule is still to be determined. Updates will be provided on GoExplorers.com.
