GENEVA, Ohio – Another pair of school records fell at this morning's preliminaries on the final day of competition at the 2013 Atlantic 10 Swimming and Diving Championship. Sophomore
Chelsey Curran and senior
Elizabeth Jordan broke the 200 yard backstroke and 100 yard freestyle school records, respectively, to place seventh and first.
Curran smashed the old record, set in 2009, by over a full second in a time of 2:02.51. What's more impressive is that she crushed her previous best time of 2:05.08 which she just set as last year's champs. Fellow sophomore
Amina Wilson also notched a personal best time in the event, posting a 2:03.96 to place 11
th. The sophomore backstrokers will have another opportunity to better their times in tonight's final.
Jordan has her sights set on claiming top sprinter honors as she blew away the field and her own school record in the 100 yard freestyle, posting a 50.32 to take the top seed. At the turn she was the only swimmer under 24 seconds; in fact, her split of 23.87 would have won the consolation final of the 50 yard freestyle on Thursday night. Tonight, Jordan will swim beside teammate
Katie Snee who placed third with a time of 51.17.
Senior
Jessica Simunek cruised to a 2:17.58 in the 200 yard breaststroke to place fifth. She'll have to fight hard against an array of strong breaststrokers if she hopes to reach the podium in her final race of her collegiate carrer.
Sophomore
Lisa Woodman posted a personal-best 2:05.66 in the 200 yard butterfly to place 13
th.
The final session of the 2013 A10 Swimming and Diving Championship gets under way tonight at 6:30 PM.
