LAS CRUCES, N.M. - The La Salle baseball team dropped the front and back end of Saturday's doubleheader at New Mexico State, falling 8-2 in the afternoon and 4-2 in the night cap. The Blue and Gold pounded out 12 hits in the two games, but the Aggies stroked 20 of their own, as they continued to swing hot bats.
GAME 1
Rob Friskey went 2-for-2 while
Jack Meeker (1-4) and
Kevin Baron (0-3, 2 BB) each scored to account for the Explorer's two runs on the afternoon. Freshman
Cody Clarke (1-4, BB) knocked in his first career RBI in the second, when he singled to drive home Baron. Meeker crossed the plate on a passed ball after he singled to lead off the inning.
The Aggies put up two in the first, second, and fifth innings while sprinkling in runs in the fourth and eighth to tally eight for the game.
Shane Hollman (0-2) took the loss for the Blue and Gold after giving up four earned runs in two innings.
Joey Ravert gave up three more in 2.1 innings in relief. Freshman
Collin McGowan threw 2.1 scoreless innings in his second appearance of the season and
Luke Reilly (1.1 IP, 1 ER) closed the book the for Explorers.
GAME 2
The Aggies jumped on the board for two in the first but the Explorers answered right back with two of their own in the top of the second when Ravert and Baron crossed the plate on unearned runs. New Mexico State struck again for two more in the fourth, and La Salle could not manage to counter, eventually falling 4-2 in seven innings.
Baron (2-3) accounted for half of La Salle's hit total in the loss.
Joey Ravert (1-1, 2 BB) added one while freshman
Bobby Schuman (1-2) picked up his first career base knock.
Ryan Donohue (0-1) suffered his first defeat of the season behind four earned runs in 4.1 innings.
Adam Cherry worked 1.1 scoreless innings in relief. Cherry's ERA remains unscathed this season with four appearances and 5.1 innings under his belt.
The Explorers (2-10) will play their last game before returning north vs. the Aggies at 3:05 PM Sunday.
