Men's Basketball Primed For Atlantic 10 Tournament


PHILADELPHIA – With its regular season concluded, the La Salle men's basketball team will take on Butler on Friday at 2:30 PM in the A-10 Quarterfinals at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn.

The Explorers trailed only 31-29 at the break, the Saint Louis outscored the Blue and Gold 47-25 in the second half behind an 85 percent (17-20) shooting percentage. Tyrone Garland led La Salle with 15 points (7-17 FG, 0-4 3-PT, 1-4 FT) while Tyreek Duren chipped in with 13 (6-12 FG, 0-3 3-PT, 1-3 FT) and Sam Mills added 12 (5-7 FG, 2-3 3-PT).

Scouting the Explorers
La Salle has won three of four coming into the A-10 playoffs, defeating Rhode Island, Duquesne, and George Washington leading up to Sunday's loss at Saint Louis. As a team, the Explorers rank in the top-four in the conference in 10 statistical categories, most notably ranking first in three point field goal percentage defense (.303). In addition, the Explorers come in with a 3.17 turnover margin, good for 22nd nationally.

Ramon Galloway ended the regular season at 17.4 points/game, second-best in the conference. He also finished top-10 in the A-10 in assists/game (3.7), steals/game (2.1), three point field goal percentage (.417), and three point field goals/game (2.8).

Tyreek Duren finished ninth in the A-10 in scoring (15.0 ppg), eight in steals/game (1.7), sixth in assist/turnover ratio (1.7), and eighth in minutes/game (34.2). The junior has registered double figure outings in his last six and 11 of his last 12.

Jerrell Wright enters postseason play riding a wave of confidence after ending in double figures in three of the last four games. He leads the team in rebounds/game (6.7, 12th in A-10) and field goal percentage (.546, seventh in A-10).

Scouting the Bulldogs
Butler ended its season with two straight wins, defeating Massachusetts and Xavier to clinch the #5 seed in the A-10 Tournament. The Bulldogs fell 54-53 at Tom Gola Arena on January 23, when they were ranked ninth in the country.

The Bulldogs are among the conference's best defensive squads, ranking fourth in scoring defense (63.8 ppg) and field goal percentage defense (.415). They are paced offensively by Rotnei Clarke (16.7 ppg, fourth in A-10), who did not play in January's matchup at La Salle.
