Baseball Splits A Pair With Chicago State; O'Neill Tosses One-Hitter In Game Two

PHILADELPHIA – The La Salle baseball team dropped Sunday's opener, 6-1, to Chicago State in resumption from Saturday's start and rebounded with a 7-0 victory over the Cougars.

GAME 1 RECAP

The Explorers and Cougars were locked up at one apiece in the top of the fifth on Saturday when inclement weather forced the umpires to suspend play. When the game was resumed on Sunday at 11 AM, Chicago State immediately pushed across four runs in the top of the fourth and added another in the eight to cement a 6-1 victory.

Shane Hollman (0-3) took the loss for the Explorers, surrendering two earned runs in 4.0 innings of work. Kevin Conroy went 3-for-4 with an RBI and Kevin Baron went 2-for-5 to account for five of La Salle's nine hits.

GAME 2 RECAP

Shawn O'Neill (1-2) started the game for the Blue and Gold and tossed a gem, earning a victory while giving up only one hit and striking out 10.

The Explorers scored one in the third and one in the fourth and put the game away with five combined runs in the seventh and eighth innings to close the door.

Baron (1-5) drove in two runs while Justin Korenblatt, Mark Williams, and George Smith, Jr. notched two hits.

The Explorers advanced to 4-12 with the day's split while Chicago State now sits at 2-13.

La Salle will play at Villanova on Tuesday (3:15 PM) and at Lafayette (3 PM) on Wednesday.
