PHILADELPHIA – The Explorer pitching staff was on top of its game on Saturday afternoon, forfeiting only five hits and one unearned run in a 3-1 victory over Fordham on Saturday afternoon at Hank DeVincent Field.
Sophomore
Shane Hollman (6 IP, 0 ER) picked up his first win of the season (1-3) as La Salle improved to 6-12 (2-0 A-10) overall. Senior
Pat Christensen picked up his third save of the season and his second in as many days. Fordham fell to 10-10 (0-2 A-10) with the loss.
The Explorers managed only four hits on the afternoon, but a timely two-out, two-run single off the bat of sophomore
Kevin Baron (1-4) in the third gave the Explorers a 2-0 lead. Fordham added a run in the top of the eighth to slice the lead in half but La Salle pushed a run across in the bottom of the inning to open up a 3-1 lead.
Senior
Dan Klem (2-4) doubled down the left field line and eventually scored when Fordham's catcher threw the ball away on an attempted steal of third base.
Christensen methodically mowed down the Rams in the ninth, striking out two, in earning his 36
th career save.
The Explorers will look to make it an A-10 series sweep on Sunday afternoon. Junior
Shawn O'Neill (1-2, 7.02 ERA) will make the start for the Blue and Gold and will be up against Fordham freshman Joseph Serrapica (2-0, 2.55 ERA).
