Explorers Take On Ole Miss On Sunday; Winner Advances To Sweet 16


KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The La Salle men's basketball team will take on Ole Miss on Sunday evening for the rights to play in the Sweet 16.

Scouting the Explorers


• Only seven La Salle teams have won more games than the 23 that this current Explorer edition has (1952-55, 1988-90).
• La Salle is 13-10 all-time in 12 NCAA Appearances and is looking for its third win in the tournament for the first time since reaching the NCAA finals in 1955.
• La Salle won the 1954 NCAA Championship at Kansas City's Municipal Auditorium, beating Bradley, 92-76, behind Most Outstanding Player Tom Gola. The Explorers are now 3-1 all-time in Kansas City with two wins in 1954 and a loss in 2009-10 at the Sprint Center to #1 Kansas.
Dr. John Giannini tied Paul Westhead for third place on La Salle's all-time win list with 142 victories. He needs four to pass National Basketball Hall of Famer Ken Loeffler. 
Ramon Galloway needs 12 points to reach 1,000 for his career at La Salle. He has scored 1,548 points in his four-year college career. Only six players have scored 1,000 points at La Salle in his first two seasons. Galloway has made 17 of his last 18 free throws (94.4%).
• Ole Miss head coach Andy Kennedy was an assistant coach at UAB while La Salle assistant Will Bailey was a player from 1996-98. Bailey was a grad assistant with Kennedy from 1999-01.
• Since La Salle lost Steve Zack to injury, Jerrell Wright is averaging 13.6 ppg. and 7.8 rpg. in his last five games. He is shooting 25-for-35 (71.4%) from the field.
Scouting the Rebels
Ole Miss has won six in a row, winning the SEC Tournament Championship before upsetting Wisconsin, 57-46, on Friday afternoon. Coached by Andy Kennedy, the Rebels rank in the top-10 nationally in points/game (77.9) and turnover margin (+4.2).

Second-team All-SEC choice Marshall Henderson leads the Rebels in scoring (20.0) and shoots the three at a 35 percent clip. The junior guard was named SEC Newcomer of the Year and ranks third in the country in three point field goals/game (3.85).

Ole Miss comes in ranked in the top-25 nationally in blocks/game, led by Reginald Buckner (2.7 bpg). The senior forward averages 9.5 points/game and 7.6 rebounds/game and shoots 58 percent from the field. Murphy Holloway leads the Rebels in rebounds/game (9.6) and comes in second in points/game (14.5), converting at a 56 percent clip. The front court tandem has combined for 21 double-doubles on the season.

Jarvis Summer Ole Miss' primary ball handler, averaging 3.7 assists/game with a 2.2 assist/turnover ratio, second-best in the SEC.
