PHILADELPHIA – The La Salle baseball team completed an Atlantic 10 series sweep of Fordham on Sunday, edging the Rams 3-2 in the third game of the weekend set. Ryan Welling (1-4, RBI) hit his second round tripper of the series and Pat Christensen picked up his fourth save of the year and his third save in as many days.

The Explorers improved to 7-12 (3-0 A-10) on the season while Fordham fell to 10-11 (0-3 A-10).

After playing two and a half scoreless innings, La Salle hopped on the board first with two runs in the bottom half of the third. Welling led off the frame and crushed a 2-2 pitch over the left field wall. Mark Williams (2-4, 2 runs) yanked a 1-0 pitch off the left field wall for a double and was driven in by a single by Collin McGowan (1-3).

The Blue and Gold added another run in the bottom of the fourth, thanks to a misplay by the Fordham right fielder. Williams singled trough the right side with two outs and scored all the way from first when a McGowan flyout was botched.

The Rams scored one in the fifth and one in the seventh but never managed to tie the ballgame.

Shawn O'Neill (2-2) picked up the win, twirling 5.2 innings with one earned run and four strikeouts. Mike McLeod relieved the lefty and was charged with an earned run in two-thirds of an inning before handing the ball to Joey Ravert. Ravert, Dominic Sgroi, Adam Cherry, and Christensen consecutively blanked the Rams, tossing 2.2 innings with no earned runs.

The Explorers and Rams each notched seven hits on the day, with La Salle outhitting Fordham 19 to 17 for the series. The Blue and Gold made only one fielding error in the three game set, upping its season fielding percentage to .965.

The series sweep marked La Salle's first in the conference since handling George Washington three times in a row in April of 2011. The Explorer pitching staff surrendered only four earned runs in 27 innings of work, lowering its season ERA by over a run. The staff stranded 11 Fordham baserunners on Sunday and 28 in the series.

La Salle will host Villanova on Tuesday afternoon in a Liberty Bell Classic game and will welcome Richmond on Thursday for the first of a three game A-10 set.
