PHILADELPHIA – Freshman Collin McGowan (3-4, RBI) banged out three hits but the rest of the Explorers mustered up only two in a 6-2 setback to Richmond on Thursday afternoon at Hank DeVincent Field. La Salle dropped to 7-14 (3-1 A-10) with the loss while Richmond improved to 16-8 (2-2 A-10).

Zak Sterling picked up his third win of the season and James Lively was credited with the save for the Spiders. Senior Ryan Donohue suffered the loss for La Salle, falling to 1-2 on the year. He struck out nine hitters and issued five free passes. Each team pounded out five hits on the afternoon.

Each team put up goose eggs in the first four frames before the Spiders got on the board with an unearned run in the fifth. They added two more in the sixth to finish off Donohue's line and take a 3-0 lead.

La Salle put up a run in the seventh when McGowan ripped a single to right center to score George Smith, Jr. (0-2, 2 BB), who worked a walk to keep the inning alive two hitters prior.

Richmond put the game away with a three-run eighth, capped by a three-run triple by Matt Zink (2-4, 3 RBI).

Mark Williams (1-3, RBI) extended his hitting streak to six games in the eighth, when he knocked in Justin Korenblatt (0-4, run), who reached on a fielder's choice.

The Explorers and Spiders will meet again tomorrow afternoon at 3 PM. Sophomore Shane Hollman will make the start for the Explorers and will go up against Richmond's Andrew Blum.
