Women's Varsity Eight Paces La Salle Crew at Murphy Cup

PENNSAUKEN, N.J. - The women's varsity eight advanced to the petite final to lead the La Salle crew at the Murphy Cup on the Cooper River this weekend.

The Explorers finished fifth in the petite final, clocking a 7:05.06 and outlasting Atlantic 10 foe Fordham by over six seconds. Drexel won the tight race, finishing less than 10 seconds ahead of the Explorer boat in 6:55.22. Rutgers placed second, followed by Connecticut, Colgate and then La Salle and Fordham.

The women's varsity eight advanced to the petite final via a fifth place finish in its heat earlier in the day. The Explorers rowed a 7:03.23, besting Villanova by nearly 15 seconds. Williams College won the heat in 6:38.50, followed by Buffalo, Bucknell, and Temple.

The women's junior varsity eight clocked a 7:34.51 to finish fourth in the five-boat race, outracing the Bucknell 'B' boat which finished in 7:38.29. Navy won in 7:05.11, followed by Rutgers and Temple.

The women's novice eight also competed this weekend, finishing third out of five boats with a time of 7:46.72 and topping future Atlantic 10 foe George Mason by just over two seconds and beating Rutgers which clocked an 8:02.05. Lehigh won the race in 7:16.88, followed by Navy.

The Explorers return to the water next Sunday, April 7, when they travel to Virginia to compete in the Occoquan Sprints.
