Last Time Out
The Explorers upended the Colonials of George Washington, 84-70 on Wednesday evening at Tom Gola Arena. Seniors
Ramon Galloway and
Garvin Hunt were honored pregame in a Senior Day ceremony. Galloway went on to lead all scorers with 29 points while
Tyreek Duren added 19 and
Jerrell Wright chipped in 16 and seven boards. The Blue and Gold shot 55 percent (12-22) from long range and held GW to a 1-8 line from three.
Scouting the Explorers
Galloway continues to be the man for the Blue and Gold, posting 10 straight games of double figure scoring. He's averaging 20.3 points/game in that span. Perhaps more impressively, the senior has recorded an assist in 14 straight games and has averaged 4.1 assists/game in those games.
La Salle is shooting 38 percent from long range on the year, and have shot over 50 percent from deep on four occasions this year.
The Explorers have moved up to second in the conference in scoring offense (73.6 ppg) behind its recent surge. Over their last eight games, the Blue and Gold has averaged 80.1 points/game.
La Salle enters the weekend fourth in the A-10 in three point field goal percentage (.377) and first in three point field goal percentage defense (.300). They are one of only 10 times nationally to rank in the top-50 in both categories.
Scouting the Billikens
Coached by Jim Crews, Saint Louis lost for the first time in over six weeks on Wednesday at Xavier. Coming into that game, the Billikens had won 11 straight. Much of their success has been a product of superb defense, as they come in first in the A-10 and 19
th nationally in scoring defense (58.5 ppg). They also rank second in the conference and 12
th nationally in turnover margin (+3.8).
Balanced would be the best way to describe the Saint Louis offense, with five players averaging at least 9.7 points/game. Junior Dwayne Evans leads the squad with 12.8 points/game and 7.2 rebounds/game. Senior Cody Ellis comes in at 10.3 points/game and Mike McCall Jr. averages 10.1 points/game.
