MERION STATION, Pa. – Saint Joseph's piled on four runs in the first inning and never looked back in a 12-1 defeat of the La Salle Explorers on Friday afternoon at John Smithson Field. SJU's Kyle Mullen threw seven innings of one run ball, earning his sixth win of the season while the Explorer's
Ryan Donohue surrendered seven earned runs in four innings, dipping his record to 1-3.
The Hawks improve to 17-16 (5-2 A-10) on the season while the Blue and Gold slip to 12-19 (6-4 A-10).
SJU scored four in the first and added runs in the second, third, and fourth, proving to be more than ample run support for Mullen, who struck out six Explorers on the afternoon. The Hawks tacked on a four-spot in the seventh and another in the eighth as well.
La Salle scored its lone run in the fourth inning, when sophomore
Ryan Welling singled to left field, plating sophomore
Kevin Conroy who led off the frame with one of his two walks on the day. The Explorers stranded two runners that inning and six total in the ballgame.
For the ballgame, the Hawks outhit the Explorers 12-4 while each team was charged with a fielding error.
La Salle and SJU will go again tomorrow afternoon at 1 PM from John Smithson Field. Junior
Shawn O'Neill will make the start for the Explorers and will be opposed by Jordan Carter.
