PHILADELPHIA – Senior Dan Klem notched a career-high with five hits while the rest of his teammates collected 14 of their own in a 17-5 La Salle victory over UMass on Friday afternoon at Hank DeVincent Field. Senior Ryan Donohue picked up his second win on the season while freshman Joey Ravert recorded a three run save in relief. The Minutemen's Andrew Grant took the loss, falling to 2-5 on the year.

The Explorers improved to 16-19 (9-4 A-10) with the win while UMass dipped to 9-19 (3-7 A-10).

UMass scored one in the top of the first, but the Blue and Gold roared back with 11 unanswered runs through five innings to blow the game wide open.

Sophomore Justin Korenblatt (1-3) got the party started with an RBI single, plating Klem who led off the inning with a single to right field. La Salle sent four more runners home in the inning, highlighted by RBI from sophomore Mark Williams (3-6) and Ravert (1-4). Two runs were of the unearned variety.

The Explorers kept their foot on the gas in the second, tacking on three more via RBI doubles from Klem and Williams. They added another in the third and two more in the fifth to open up a commanding 11-1 lead.

The Minutemen added two in the sixth and two in the seventh to close the book on Donohue, who ended the day with five earned runs and six strikeouts over six innings of work. UMass would not cut the deficit closer than 11-5, however, as La Salle exploded for six more runs in the bottom of the eighth to stamp the victory.

Four Explorers finished the day with four multi-hit performances while 11 batters in all contributed to the 19-hit effort. UMass recorded 10 hits on the day along with three fielding errors while La Salle recorded another errorless day.

The A-10 rivals will square off again tomorrow afternoon at 1 p.m.
