EASTON, Pa. – Sophomore Mark Williams extended his hitting streak to nine games and drove in four runs in La Salle's 6-2 win over Lafayette on Tuesday afternoon in a Liberty Bell Classic consolation game. Sophomore Ryan Welling tied a career-high with three hits while sophomore Mike McLeod picked up his first win of the season, throwing two scoreless innings while fanning four in relief.

Freshman Brandon Day (1-4) led off the Explorer third inning with a single and came around to score when sophomore Kevin Conroy (0-5) grounded into a fielder's choice. Williams (1-4) stepped up to the plate following a Justin Korenblatt (2-3) walk and crushed a three run homer over the left center field fence to give La Salle a 4-0 advantage. It would be all the offense that the Blue and Gold pitching stiff would need.

Lafayette (5-22) scored a run in the fourth to cut the Explorer lead to three runs but La Salle added one in the fifth and one in the sixth to open up a 6-1 edge. The Leopards pushed one more across in the bottom of the sixth but never cut further into the lead.

Sophomore Kevin Baron stroked two more hits in a 2-for-5 day while George Smith, Jr. notched a 2-for-4 line. As a team, the Blue and Gold posted a clean defensive effort while Lafayette was charged with four fielding errors on the afternoon.

Williams started the game on the mound for the Explorers and tossed three innings of one-run ball. McLeod threw two scoreless innings en route to the win and handed the ball to sophomore Adam Cherry, who ate up three innings, giving up one earned run. Senior Pat Christensen mowed down the Leopards 1-2-3 in the ninth.

The Explorers (9-15) will continue their five game road swing on Wednesday when they travel to Villanova for a 3:15 PM start time.
