Explorer Bats Tamed In 3-1 Loss At Villanova

PLYMOUTH MEETING, Pa. – The La Salle baseball team was held to one run and five hits by Villanova (8-19) on Wednesday afternoon in a 3-1 defeat at the Villanova Ballpark. The Explorers (9-16) were paced by a 2-for-4 day at the plate by sophomore Mark Williams, who extended his hitting streak to 10 games.

La Salle picked up its lone run of the ballgame in the first inning by way of two Wildcat fielding errors. The Explorer bats were tamed all afternoon long thanks to an 8.1 IP performance by Villanova sophomore Jeff Courter.

The Wildcats scored one in the second and added two in the fifth, tagging junior Shawn O'Neill for his fourth loss of the season after entering in relief. Freshman Austin Clark made the start for the Blue and Gold, tossing 3.1innings while being charged with one earned run.

Freshman Joey Ravert threw 2.2 scoreless innings in relief of O'Neill.

Sophomore Kevin Baron posted a 1-for-3 line with a walk while freshman Bobby Schuman and sophomore Kevin Conroy each picked up singles as well.

Villanova poked six hits on the day and committed three fielding errors while the Blue and Gold played another errorless game in the field.
 
La Salle will resume its Atlantic 10 schedule on Friday at Temple at 3 PM.
