AMBLER, Pa. – The La Salle baseball team tallied a season-high 12 runs and tied a season-high with 13 hits in a 12-7 series-clinching victory over Temple on Sunday afternoon at Skip Wilson Field. Senior Dan Klem (3-5, 3 runs) and sophomore Kevin Baron (2-4, 4 RBI, 2 runs) formed a two-man wrecking crew atop the Explorer lineup.

La Salle improves to 11-17 (6-3 A-10) on the season with the victory while Temple falls to 11-16 (3-6 A-10). Sophomore Adam Cherry was credited with his first win of the season while the Owl's Dan Miller (1-4) took the loss.

Temple scored two in the bottom of the first, matched by a two-spot in the top of the second by the Blue and Gold. Sophomore Justin Korenblatt (0-3, 2 RBI, BB) plated sophomore Mark Williams (1-5, run) on a sacrifice fly which was followed by a solo homer by George Smith, Jr. (1-5, RBI, 2 runs), his first of the season.

The Owls took a 4-2 lead by adding two more in the bottom of the second, but the Blue and Gold proceeded to score six unanswered runs in the third, fourth, and fifth innings to open up an 8-4 lead. Temple cut the lead to 8-6 by scoring two in the seventh, but the Explorers added three in the eighth and another in the ninth to put the game out of reach.

La Salle starter junior Shawn O'Neill was knocked out of the ballgame after tossing three innings after forfeiting four runs (three earned) despite striking out four hitters. Temple's Dan Moller was roughed up as well, lasting only two frames while giving up five runs (three earned).

Senior Pat Christensen earned his fifth save of the season for the Explorers, tossing the final 2.2 innings while striking out four batters.

Temple's defense proved to be La Salle's best friend on Sunday afternoon to the tune of six fielding errors. Only seven of the 12 runs the Blue and Gold pushed across were of the earned variety.

The Explorers will host Lafayette on Tuesday (3 PM) and Penn on Wednesday (3 PM) before traveling to Saint Joseph's next weekend for another A-10 set.
