Lafayette, Penn Visit Explorers in Midweek Play


PHILADELPHIA – The La Salle baseball team will host a pair of midweek non-conference games this week vs. Lafayette and Penn. The Explorers enter the week 11-17 overall and 3-6 in Atlantic 10 play. Tuesday's game vs. Lafayette will be streamed on the "Live Video" link provided below.

NOTE: Tuesday's game vs. Lafayette will include a La Salle Proud celebration, with a tailgate beginning at 2:30. Fans and spectators can enjoy popcorn, cotton candy, and tailgate games provided by Students For La Salle and the La Salle Fund.

Explorer Notes
  • La Salle defeated Lafayette, 6-2, in their earlier meeting this season (4/2) in Easton, Pa.
  • The Blue and Gold split a pair of games (L 4-9, W 11-4) in their two meetings with Penn last season.
  • After starting the season 2-11, the Blue and Gold have won nine of their last fifteen.
  • La Salle is 8-2 in games decided by two runs or less this season.
  • The Explorers rank fifth in the conference in fielding percentage (.967).
  • La Salle ranks tenth in the A-10 in batting average (.249) and 14th in team ERA (6.10).

  • Senior Dan Klem recorded two three-hit games last week and ranks second on the team in runs (13).
  • Senior Pat Christensen is second in the A-10 in saves (5) and has pitched in 10 of La Salle's 11 wins this season. After surrendering 10 earned runs in his first four outings (12.1 innings), the senior has forfeited only one in his last 16 (8 appearances) innings of work. His 10.8 K/9 mark is the best mark on the pitching staff while walking only five batters all season.

Leopard Notes
  • Lafayette dropped three of four over the weekend to Patriot League-rival Holy Cross.
  • As a team, Lafayette is batting .245 on the season with a .946 fielding percentage and 7.44 ERA.
  • Senior Kevin Casey leads the Leopards in batting average (.317), runs (22), walks (23), and on-base percentage (.462).
  • Senior Andrew Ruck is batting .312 with a club lead in hits (34), home runs (3), and total bases (47).
  • In their game earlier this season vs. the Explorers, the Leopards banged out seven team hits, with freshman Andrew Landolfi (.247 BA) notching a two-hit day at the plate.

Quaker Notes
  • Penn split its last two Ivy League series vs. Yale and Brown.
  • The Quakers rank second in the Ivy League in batting average (.280) and rank first in stolen bases (51-62).
  • Penn's pitching staff ranks third in the conference in team ERA (3.87).
  • Senior Ryan Deitrich leads the conference in batting average (.450) and ranks first in hits (45), runs (23), and total bases (66).
  • Senior Spencer Branigan ranks 13th in the Ivy League in batting average (.364), third in hits (36), third in doubles (11), and fourth in total bases (47).
  • Senior infielder Michael Villardo comes in third on the club in batting average (.341) with a team-high 26 RBI.
