Santana Recognized As Atlantic 10 Performer Of The Week

PHILADELPHIA - Alfedo Santana has been named Atlantic 10 Men's Outdoor Track and Field Performer of the Week for April 8, the league office announced today. The senior placed second in the 5000m race at the Colonial Relays over the weekend, clocking a 14:00.93.

"It is a great honor to be recognized in a league with such elite athletes and high performing competitors," Santana said. "I am glad I was able to receive this honor for a week with such fast times and for this reason I am excited for the rest of the athletic year."

The Nueva Esperanza product surpassed his previous PR in the event by over 20 seconds and finished only .84 seconds behind Oklahoma's Kevin Williams, a second-team All-American, for the top position. The Philadelphia, Pa. native earned eight team points for the Explorers with the finish, aiding a 14th place team finish (30-team field) for the Blue and Gold.

The recognition marks fourth time since the fall that Santana has been honored as the conference's Performer of the Week in either cross country or track and field. Santana was named 'Performer of the Meeet' at the A-10 Indoor Chmpionships after taking home the gold in the 5000m and 3000m.
