FAIRFAX, Va. - Four Explorer boats were in action this weekend at the Occoquan Sprints in Virginia, paced by the novice eight's second place finish in its petite final.
The novice eight clocked a 6:26.60 in the petite final, outlasting third place Delaware by four seconds. Temple captured the race in 6:15.80. The novice eight made the petite final via a third place finish out of five boats in its earlier heat. The Explorers clocked a 6:39.81, well ahead of fourth place Loyola (Md.)'s 7:16.81. Grand Valley State won the heat in 6:10.90.
The junior varsity eight finished third out of six in the petite final, clocking a 6:12.15 in the race and outlasting fourth place Duquesne by nearly five seconds. North Carolina won the petite final in 6:07.10. The Explorers earned a trip to the petite final with a fifth place finish in its heat, posting a 6:17.33 to top Washington College. Drexel won the heat in 6:08 flat.
The varsity eight also competed in the petite final, finishing fifth in 6:38.88 to beat Delaware by just under two seconds. Washington College won the race in 6:27.20. The V8 finished fourth in its earlier heat with a time of 6:44.01. Temple won the heat in 6:33.20.
The varsity four was also in action, finishing fifth in its heat with a time of 8:07.71. Navy won in 7:27.60.
