PHILADELPHIA - The women's novice eight advanced to Saturday's semifinal round to lead La Salle Women's Crew at the Aberdeen Dad Vail Regatta on the Schuylkill River on Friday.
The novices finished third in its heat to capture the final semifinal spot, clocking a 7:58.686 and outlasting William & Mary by nearly 12 seconds. The mostly Atlantic 10 race also featured heat winner Temple (7:31.740) and Dayton (7:47.854). The novice eight races again on Saturday at 7:50 a.m.
The varsity eight finished fifth in the reps with a time of 7:17.605 and beat Jacksonville by about nine seconds. Colgate won the race in 7:05.227, followed by Pitt, Fordham and Army. The top three advanced to the semifinal round. The Explorers earlier finished fourth in its heat to advance to reps, finishing in 7:04.534 and toppling Albany by nearly a minute. Cal State Sacramento won the heat in 6:44.160, followed by George Mason and Lehigh.
The junior varsity eight was also in action, finishing fifth in its heat. The Explorers clocked a 7:42.269, beating Jacksonville by over nine seconds. Massachusetts won the heat in 7:05.295, followed by Purdue, Connecticut and Delaware. The top two advanced to the final.
