ARLINGTON, Va. – The George Washington Colonials kept the Explorer bats at bay once again on Saturday afternoon, handing the Blue and Gold a 4-1 defeat at Hank Barcroft Field. Senior Dan Klem was the lone Explorer to register a multi-hit day, notching a 2-for-4 line in the defeat.

The Colonials (25-30, 15-9 A-10) tallied a two-spot in the third inning behind three hits and a sacrifice fly. Both runs were charged to sophomore Mark Williams, who lasted 2.1 innings and was handed his fourth loss of the season.

The Blue and Gold (24-27, 15-9 A-10) chopped the lead in half in the fourth. Sophomore Kevin Conroy (1-4, run) reached on an infield single to lead off the frame and scampered to third when Williams (1-2) singled through the left side. After a Joey Ravert (1-2) walk and Ryan Welling strikeout, junior George Smith, Jr. (1-3, RBI) smacked a single through the left side to score Conroy. Williams was gunned down at the plate to end the threat.

George Washington added a run in the fourth and another in the eighth in what proved to be the remainder of the afternoon's scoring. The Explorers managed only two baserunners after the fourth inning behind a solid effort from GW starter Justin Albright (2-1) and two relievers.

Five Explorers in all saw time on the mound on Saturday, combining to let up four runs on eight hits. La Salle tallied six hits in the ballgame.

Saturday's loss concludes the most successful regular season in La Salle's Atlantic 10 history. This year's squad posted a conference win mark of 15, topping the previous high of 14 set in 2010. Mike Lake's squad qualifies for the A-10 tournament for the third time in the past four years, ending as the no. 6 seed in the league. The Explorers will draw no. 3 Rhode Island in the first round of the tournament on Wednesday.
