Baseball Set To Begin A-10 Tournament On Wednesday vs. Rhode Island

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – On the heels of a record breaking regular season, the La Salle baseball team begins postseason play on Wednesday at the Atlantic 10 Championships. The Blue and Gold will square up against Rhode Island at 5 p.m. in the opening round of the tournament. The loser will play again at 8:30 p.m. against the loser of Charlotte/Richmond in an elimination game.

Explorer Notes
  • La Salle's 15-9 conference mark in the regular season broke the program's previous high of 14, set in 2010.
  • The Explorers and Rams last matched up in 2011, with Rhode Island winning three of four meetings. Rhody toppled the Explorers, 7-4, in the second round of the conference tournament that season.
  • La Salle is 15-7 in games this season decided by two runs or less.
  • Since beginning the season 2-11, the Blue and Gold have posted a 22-14 record after returning from spring break.
  • First-team all-conference selection Pat Christensen is putting the finish touches on a terrific career as a closer at La Salle. The senior has tallied 44 career saves, tied for fifth-most in NCAA Division I history. In A-10 play this season, the La Jolla, Calif. native registered an 0.94 ERA with 10 saves, both league highs. He has earned a win or save in 12 of the Explorers' 15 conference wins this season.
  • Second-team all-conference choice Dan Klem leads the Blue and Gold in hits (60) this season. His 36 hits in conference play tied for second in the league while his .356 batting average ranked eighth. He leads the club with 18 multi-hit games on the year.
  • Sophomore Mark Williams led the Explorers in five offensive categories this season. Williams tied for the conference lead in doubles (10) and triples (3), posted the third-most total bases (52) in conference games and sports the A-10's best slugging percentage (.598). He tallied the third-highest batting average (.379) and ninth-highest on base percentage (.433) as well.
  • Sophomore Justin Korenblatt tied for the A-10 lead in triples (5) this season and leads the club in total bases (78). He has reached base safely in 12 consecutive games.
  • Sophomore Kevin Baron leads the Explorers in runs (29) and walks (23) and batted .303 in A-10 play this year.
  • Sophomore Kevin Conroy has tallied eight hits over his last five games and leads the squad with seven multi-RBI games.
  • All-freshman selection Joey Ravert notched a .301 batting clip, good for fourth-highest on the squad.
  • R-sophomore Shane Hollman notched a 3-1 record with a 2.89 ERA in five conference starts this season. In his last outing, Hollman forfeited only one run in six innings of work in a no decision at GW. He has not allowed more than three earned runs in a start since 4/9 vs. Lafayette when he gave up four.
  • Sophomore Adam Cherry has given up only two earned runs over his last 10 outings (10 innings). He fanned a season-high four hitters in 1.2 innings on 5/11 at St. Bonaventure.

Ram Notes
  • The Rams have won six straight including a series sweep over Saint Joseph's to end the regular season.
  • Rhode Island posted a 2.07 team ERA in conference and a 3.08 overall ERA.
  • The Rams field .973 as a team, the second best mark in the league.
  • Probable starter Mike Bradstreet struck out 70 hitters in 93.1 innings and only 15 walks.
  • Tim Caputo leads the team in batting (.299) and has tallied 29 RBI on the season.
  • Jeff Roy comes in batting .290 with a 30-for-30 mark stealing bases.
