CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Richmond Spiders tallied 11 hits and took advantage of four La Salle errors in a 7-2 victory on Wednesday evening at Robert and Mariam Hayes Stadium. With the defeat, the Explorers ended their season 24-29, highlighted by a program-record 15 Atlantic 10 regular season victories.

The Spiders (31-23) pushed across a run in the first inning, using two errors by freshman catcher Dan Callahan. A catcher's interference call and a throwing error on an attempted stolen base gave Richmond an early 1-0 edge.

Richmond struck again in the third when Mike Small touched home on a single by Adam Forrer. Small led off the inning with a walk to spark the opportunity.

La Salle chopped the lead in half in the third when freshman Brandon Day (1-2, RBI, HBP) smoked a fastball over the wall in left field. In only his 13th start of the season, Day broke out of a 1-for-39 slide with one ferocious swing to get the Blue and Gold on the board.

The Spiders added two to their total in the fourth on two walks, a wild pitch, and an RBI single. The spurt drove Ryan Donohue out of the ballgame, closing his line at four runs (three earned) over 3.1 innings. Donohue took the loss, sliding to 3-5 on the year.

Down 4-1, the Explorers got another run back in the fifth on a Dan Klem (1-4) RBI single with two outs. Freshman Joey Ravert (1-3) walked to lead off the inning and advanced to second after Day was hit by a pitch.

The rest of the scoring in the ballgame belonged to Richmond, as the Spiders added a run in the sixth and two more in the eighth. One run was charged to Adam Cherry's line while the other two were Pat Christensen's, though only one was earned.

Christensen fanned seven Spiders in only three innings of work, capping off a historically good collegiate baseball career. He ended the season with 58 strikeouts against only 10 walks.

Richmond's Jonathan De Marte took the win, working seven innings of two-run ball.
