Baseball Meets Up With St. Bonaventure In Atlantic 10 Action


PHILADELPHIA – After a busy week of finals, the La Salle baseball team will head north to Olean, N.Y. to take on St. Bonaventure in a pivotal three-game Atlantic 10 series. The Explorers enter the weekend at 13-5 in the A-10, good for a three-way tie with Saint Louis and Charlotte for the top spot in the standings.

Explorer Notes
  • La Salle needs one more conference victory to tie the program's record for A-10 victories in a season (14, set in 2010).
  • After starting the season 2-11, the Explorers have gone 19-12 since returning from spring break.
  • As a team, the Blue and Gold are batting .285 in A-10 games, the fourth-best mark in the conference.
  • Senior Pat Christensen (6-1, 10 saves) has earned a win or save in 16 of La Salle's 21 victories this season. His 43 career saves are a program-high, conference-high, and tied for sixth-most in NCAA Division I history. In relief, the La Jolla, Calif. native is 6-0 on the year with an 0.51 ERA. He has tallied 40 strikeouts in 35.1 innings while walking only six batters. He has been named Big 5 Pitcher of the Week four times this season and was named a CoSIDA Academic All-District choice for the second time last week.
  • Senior Dan Klem is carrying an eight-game hitting streak while hitting safely in 16 of his last 18 games. The senior has raised his batting average from .276 to .338 while batting .423 during the span. Klem is sporting a .395 batting average in A-10 play, the third-best figure in the league.
  • In conference play, sophomore Mark Williams ranks first in hits (30), second in batting average (.400), second in slugging percentage (.600), and fifth in on base percentage (.452).
  • Freshman Joey Ravert has hit safely in his last five games and 14 of his last 17. 
  • Sophomore Justin Korenblatt is tied for second in the A-10 in triples (4) and leads the Explorers in total bases (69).

Scouting the Bonnies
  • St. Bonaventure dropped two of three last weekend at Rhode Island, winning the opener 2-1 before falling 3-2 and 7-0 in the final two games of the series.
  • As a team, the Bonnies rank seventh in the A-10 in batting average (.265), 13th in ERA (5.19), and sixth in fielding percentage (.966).
  • Jason Radwan is tied for sixth in the nation in batting average (.410) and leads St. Bonaventure in runs (27), hits (66), total bases (78), slugging percentage (.484), and on base percentage (.472).
  • Billy Urban leads the club in RBI (25) while coming in second in batting average (.325).
  • Joel Rosencrance leads the squad in walks (21) and is tied for the team lead in doubles (10).
  • Game one's probable starter, Andrew Revello, has recorded 47 strikeouts in 63.2 innings while walking 35 batters. Opposing hitters are batting .277 off him.
  • Game two's probable starter, Rosencrance, has struck out 41 hitters in 42.2 innings while recording 13 walks. Opponents are batting .308 against him.

The Explorers will visit Rider on Tuesday in a non-league game before heading down to Washington, D.C. for a three-game A-10 series with George Washington next weekend.
