PHILADELPHIA – Senior
Jason Plumhoff netted his fourth goal of the season and helped on another as the La Salle men's soccer team took down Saint Peter's, 2-1, on Saturday afternoon at McCarthy Stadium.
"The first win's always the most important," Plumhoff said post-game. "We have some confidence instilled in us and I think we can actually make some noise and take that confidence to win some more games." Â
The first half was fairly quiet, with only two combined shots on goal in the frame. Fresh out of the half in the 50
th minute, Plumhoff found the head of a streaking
Andrew Lill off a free position from 25 yards out to put the Explorers up 1-0. The goal marked Lill's first of the season.
Just over a minute later, the Peacocks answered back with a strike off the foot of Maddee Maddee, who buried one just inside the left post past an outstretched
John McCarthy.
The game remained locked at one until the 77
th minute, when La Salle took the lead for good. Lill played a ball from midfield that found the head of freshman
Matt Robinson, who flicked the ball to
Joe Farrell. Farrell collected the ball just outside the 18 and dished it off to Plumhoff, who ripped a low liner one-time blast to give the Explorers a 2-1 edge.
The Peacocks (0-3-1) outshot the explorers 12-11 in the contest. McCarthy made a pair of saves in net for the Blue and Gold to up his career tally to 371. Plumhoff's three point day gives him 10 on the year and 58 for his career.
La Salle (1-2-2) will take on city-rival Drexel on Tuesday at 7 PM. Â
