PHILADELPHIA – In a game that logged 29 combined shots, only the last one mattered as Drexel defeated the La Salle men's soccer team, 1-0, on Tuesday evening on a late goal. With the win, the Dragons improved to 3-2-1 on the year while the Explorers fell to 1-3-2.
Dragon senior Mark Donohue scored the game winner with seven seconds remaining, a header assisted by Michele Pataia and Nathan Page. Senior goalkeeper John McCarthy made six saves in the contest, but Donohue's header eluded him in the waning seconds of regulation.
Drexel peppered McCarthy with shots all evening long, tallying a 23-6 edge in the category including seven shots on net. Senior Jason Plumhoff led the Explorers with three shot attempts, one on goal, while junior Pat Sullivan also put a ball on net.
Despite the unfortunate ending, La Salle has surrendered only two goals in their last three matches and will look to continue its strong defensive play on Saturday at 1 PM vs. Lehigh.
