Men’s Soccer Opens Home Schedule on Wednesday vs. Loyola (Md.)


PHILADELPHIA – The La Salle men's soccer team will host Loyola (Md.) in its home opener on Wednesday at 7 PM. The Explorers are coming off a 2-2 overtime tie at Lafayette on Friday evening.

The game will be video streamed via GoExplorers.tv through the Atlantic 10's new partnership with Neulion. A 24-hour subscription is $4.95, one-month is $9.95, four months is $29.95 and a yearly subscription is $79.95. 

NOTE: The first 40 students at Wedneday's game will receive the first of five t-shirts in our fall sports t-shirt series. Free water ice and soft pretzels will also be provided.

Explorer Notes

  • Seniors Jidell Roach and Jason Plumhoff each netted goals for the Explorers in the season opener.
  • Plumhoff's goal added two to his career point tally, giving him 50 – good for ninth-most in program history.
  • Senior goalkeeper John McCarthy made three stops in the effort on Friday. McCarthy was one of four goalkeepers on the MAC Hermann Award Preseason Watch List. Last season, McCarthy finished fourth nationally in saves (114), eighth in save percentage (.844), and 13th in saves/game (5.70). He is already La Salle's all-time leader in shutouts (23) and set a program record with nine shutouts a year ago.
  • Of the squad's eight freshman, Kehiel Williams was the only one to earn a start on opening day.
  • Both Plumhoff and McCarthy were named Atlantic 10 preseason all-conference choices.
  • The Explorers were picked to finish fifth in the conference's preseason coaches poll.
  • La Salle toppled Loyola (Md.) in its second game last season by a score of 1-0 in overtime. Plumhoff netted the game winner in the 97th minute.

  • Loyola (Md.) tied its season opener at Saint Joseph's on Friday, 1-1.
  • Senior defender Jamie Libby was named Patriot League Defensive Player of the Week for his efforts in the decision.
  • The Greyhound's lone goal of the game was netted by junior Connor Thompson.
  • Loyola (Md.) was picked to finish third in the Patriot League's preseason coaches poll.
  • Sophomore Larry Ndjock was tabbed as the conference's preseason offensive player of the year. He ranked second nationally among freshman last season in goals (13) and points (29).
