NEW YORK – The La Salle men's track and field team competed at the UAlbany Great Dane Classic at the New Balance Track & Field Center at the Armory on Friday in its first action of the new year. Despite competing without several of its members, the squad managed 26 points en route to a 10
th place team finish.
Two Explorers stole the show in the 3000-meter run, paced by first place winner
Nick Ross (8:26.78), who posted an IC4A qualifying time.
Zach Sullivan ran in his shadow, placing second with an 8:28.66.
Ian Barnhill (8:41.53) and
Jimmy Murphy (8:43.14) crossed ninth and 11
th, respectively.
Brendan Robertson came in 17
th (8:56.76).
The DMR had a strong day for the Blue and Gold, placing second with a 10:00.34.
Kevin Day,
Joshua Byrd,
Chris Sanders, and
Vince Perozze combined to clock the time. They finished only 2.08 seconds out of first place.
The 4x400 meter relay team (Fowler, Byrd, Hunter, Sanders) posted a 3:24.52, coming in 16
th.
Nick Lefavor and
Terence Murphy placed 14
th and 21
st, respectively, in the one-mile run. Lefavor clocked a 4:26.01 while Murphy came in at 4:36.28.
Cris Hunter posted a 51.27 in the 400-meter dash, coming in 41
st (51-runner field).
Kevin Grosso timed a 2:02.20 in the 800-meter run, crossing the finish line 27
th (31-runner field).
Chris Trimble placed 19
th in the 1000-meter run, registering a 2:34.02.
Connecticut took home the top score in the event with a 120.333. Buffalo (111.5) and host Albany (91) finished second and third. The Explorers were sandwiched by Rutgers (26.33) and LIU Brooklyn (25).
The Blue and Gold compete again on Friday, January 24 at the Georgetown Invitational.
