PHILADELPHIA – The La Salle women's swimming and diving team hosted Fordham and Richmond in a tri-meet on Sunday afternoon at Kirk Pool. The Explorers fell, 197-102, to Richmond and 193-106 to Fordham. The Class of 2014 was honored in a pre-meet ceremony as the team celebrated senior day.
"I don't think you can even measure what they've done for the program," head coach
Matt Nunnally said when asked about his senior class. "The time and commitment that they've made and the leadership that they show is something you're going to miss going into next year but you also have the expectation that other kids are going to step up and fill those roles.
"I look at them as irreplaceable in a certain sense because they're all unique and it's just a pleasure to be able to coach them."
Katie Snee claimed first in the in the 50-yard freestyle with a 24.63.
Tanawan Sukonthapanich was close behind Snee in the 100 with a second place time of 24.86. Snee followed up with a third place finish in the 100-yard freestyle with a 53.50.
"I thought
Katie Snee swam well," Nunnaly said. "She had a lot of good swims – in terms of the 500 and 100 freestyle to get herself established."
Kelsey Jenkinson was her normal electric self, winning the 100-yard breaststroke with a 1:05.93. She came in second in the 200-yard breaststroke, touching the wall at 2:23.92.
Colleen Larkin registered a second place time in the 1000-yard freestyle with a 10:27.04. She later came in fourth in the 500-yard freestyle with a 5:11.35.
Sarah Finn was the first Explorer to cross the finish line in the 200-yard freestyle with a 1:57.73.
Chelsey Curran notched a fourth place finish in the 200-yard backstroke with a 2:09.98.
The 200-yard medley relay team (Curran, Jenkinson, Wilson, Snee) came in fourth, posting a 1:50.17. The 400-yard medley relay squad (Snee, Sukonthapanich, Finn, Hay) later came in third with a 3:37.89.
On the diving board,
Paige Frishkorn notched the top Explorer scores in the 3-meter dive (238.50) and 1-meter dive (239.50).
The Explorers swim again on Saturday, January 25 at Loyola (Md.) beginning at 11 AM.
