Distance Runners Excel for Men’s Track & Field at Georgetown

WASHINGTON, D.C. – A number of distance runners put together strong performances for the La Salle men's track and field team on Friday evening at the Hoya Spiked Shoe Club Invitational hosted by Georgetown University.

Alfredo Santana glistened in the 3000 meter run, taking the top time with an 8:19.86. Demitri Goutos was the second Explorer to cross the finish line in the event, placing fifth with an 8:28.12.

In the one mile run, Nick Ross (4:13.01), Zach Sullivan (4:13.61), and Vince Perozze (4:14.49) ran in a pack, placing fourth thru sixth, respectively.

The 4x800 meter relay team (Sanders, Sullivan, Perozze, Ross) placed second with a 7:58.31. The 4x400 meter relay squad (Fowler, Grosso, Hunter-Brooks, Byrd) came in third, crossing the finish line at 3:28.49.

Kevin Grosso ran a 1:06.35 in the 500-meter dash, placing fourth. Kevin Day registered a fourth place time in the 1000 meter run with a 2:30.51.

Francis Mancho came in fourth in the 60-meter dash with a 7.20. He posted a 6.37m in the long jump, coming in third.

Avery Hunter-Brooks registered the top La Salle time in the 300-meter dash with a 37.07, finishing seventh. Nick Delle Vecchia clocked a 9.31 in the 60-meter hurdles, coming in second.

Michael Santeramo tossed a 12.17m in the shot put.

The Explorers will compete at the Penn State Invitational (1/31-2/1) and Columbia Lions Invitational (2/1) next weekend.
