Cropper's Career-High 32 Points Propels Women's Basketball Past GW, 77-68

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Alicia Cropper was on fire on Saturday afternoon, smashing her old career high of 23 with a 32-point output in La Salle's 77-68 win at George Washington.

Cropper's 32 points came on 11-for-18 shooting including 5-for-7 from long range. Micahya Owens added 18 points on 6-for-12 shooting, and Leeza Burdgess went 8-for-9 en route to 17 points.

As a team, the Explorers shot 51.9 percent from the field, including a scorching 77.8 percent (7-9) from long range.

Jasmine Alston was stellar defensively, pulling down a career-best 13 rebounds while also dishing out a game-high-tying five assists on the offensive end. Owens and Cropper also added five helpers each as the Explorers dished out a total of 16 in the game, well above their 9.9 apg average.

A quartet of Colonials (13-7, 4-3 Atlantic 10) hit double figures, led by Chakecia Miller's 14. Caira Washington added 13 and Danni Jackson and Megan Nipe added 12 apiece.

The Explorers (10-9, 5-2 Atlantic 10) won the battle of the boards against the league's top rebounding squad, outrebounding GW 39-32. The squad did a job on Colonial leader Jonquel Jones (14.4 ppg/11.0 rpg), limiting her to just four points and two boards while battling foul troubles. The team also limited Jackson to just one assist, well off of her league-leading 8.0 apg in A-10 play.

La Salle balloooned a five-point 38-33 halftime lead to 11 on an 8-3 run out of the locker room to take a 46-35 lead at 17:14. GW got back within single digits but a Burdgess bucket in the paint pushed the Explorer lead back to 10 at 50-40 with 16:05 on the clock.

The pesky Colonials would not stay away, however, mounting a 16-5 run spanning the middle nine minutes of the second half to pull within one at 56-55, capped by a Jackson layup.

Owens responded with a three to spark a 14-5 Explorer run to put the game out of reach for the home squad. Cropper drained a three with 2:02 on the clock to push the lead back to 10 points and the Explorers coasted from there to the final 77-68 score.

The Explorers return to action on Wednesday (1/29) when they host Richmond at 7 p.m.
