The Explorers suffered a heartbreaking defeat Saturday afternoon against VCU. The Blue and Gold battled the Rams to a stalemate through 40 minutes of regulation and another five minutes of extra-time, before ultimately falling in the second overtime session by a final score of 97-89.
Tyrone Garland posted career-high 30 points in the defeat.

The Explorers outlasted the Colonials 76-72 at Tom Gola Arena in the Atlantic 10 conference opener for both schools on January 9. Senior guard
Sam Mills saved the game for the Blue and Gold in this one. He scored a game-high 17 points, going 5-of-7 from three-point range. Mills also drew a crucial charge with 2.6 seconds remaining to preserve the La Salle lead.

La Salle will look to notch their sixth straight victory over the Colonials on Wednesday evening. In the team's last matchup at the Charles E. Smith Center in 2013, six Explorers scored double-figures led by
Ramon Galloway and
D.J. Peterson, who netted 15 points apiece in the 80-71 victory.
#15 Patch for Tom Gola
La Salle will wear a #15 patch on its jerseys for the remainder of the season in the memory of Tom Gola, who passed away on Sunday.
Scouting the Explorers
La Salle ranks second in the Atlantic 10 in free throw percentage (.708) and fifth in field goal percentage defense (.428). The Explorers have held conference opponents to a .267 mark behind the three point line.
Garland is averaging 17.0 points/game in A-10 play, the seventh-best mark in the conference. He has tallied 44 points in his last two outings. Backcourt mate
Tyreek Duren ranks in the top-15 in the league in seven statistical categories. His 35.9 points/game is good for second in the A-10. His assist/turnover ratio (2.3) is good for second as well.

Scouting the Colonials
George Washington has won four straight since their conference opening loss to the Explorers. They have a 2-0 record at home during conference play with wins over Rhode Island and VCU. They have won their last two games, both on the road, against St. Bonaventure and a 75-69 victory over George Mason on Saturday.

The defense continues to set the tone for the Colonials. They rank fourth in the conference in scoring defense, allowing only 66.2 points/game. George Washington has been even stingier of late, allowing 65.5 points/game in their last four. They are tied for first in the conference for blocked shots with 100 on the season, averaging 5.3 blocks/game. They trail only VCU in steals, they have swiped 154 on the season and are averaging 8.1 steals/game.

Maurice Creek continues to pace the Colonials offensively. He is averaging 14.3 points/game, the 12
th best mark in the Atlantic 10 this season.

Isaiah Armwood and Patricio Garino led the way for the Colonials in their matchup against La Salle earlier this month. Both players netted 15 points in the defeat, with Armwood collecting a double-double adding 12 rebounds. Armwood is fifth in the conference in rebounding averaging 7.8 rebounds/game.
