LORETTO, Pa. - Despite a valiant defensive effort, the La Salle field hockey squad was edged 1-0 by St. Francis (Pa.) on Friday afternoon in Loretto, Pa.
Autumn Pellman, the nation's leading scorer, came up in the 29th minute with the game's lone score off of a penalty corner.
The Explorers (6-5, 3-2 Atlantic 10) were hardly fazed by the Red Flash's flashy stats, as St. Francis (9-1, 3-1 Atlantic 10) is currently the nation's highest-scoring offense. The Red Flash averages 4.78 goals per game, but the stifling La Salle defense along with eight
Rachel Hartman saves limited the squad to just one goal.
St. Francis dominated in its offensive half, rattling off 14 shots while limiting the Explorers to four. The Red Flash, which averaged over 11 penalty corners per game to lead the nation in that category as well, forced 13 in today's contest.Â
Eileen Dzwill and
Emily Vasey gave the Explorers their best chances to score as each recorded one shot on goal, but Red Flash keeper Samantha Zeiders came up with both saves.
The Explorers continue a tough road trip on Sunday, heading to Temple to take on the 15th-ranked Owls at noon.
